Yuvraj Singh Opens Up on His Relationship with MS Dhoni: Cricket Bonds and Professional Respect

The personal relationship between former India captain Dhoni and all-rounder Yuvraj has come under scrutiny in the past few years

INDIA: In an interview, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh disclosed that he and MS Dhoni are not good pals. Dhoni, who has been closely associated with India’s past two World Cup victories, captained the team in both the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup, while Singh was named Player of the Tournament in 2011 and India’s finest player in the first World T20 competition.

The personal relationship between former India captain Dhoni and all-rounder Yuvraj has come under scrutiny in the past few years. Yuvraj disclosed that their friendship stems solely from their mutual love of cricket rather than their similar way of life.

Although he acknowledged that he didn’t agree with Dhoni’s choices while serving as his deputy, he expressed gratitude for being informed about his prospects before the 2019 World Cup and learning that he wasn’t being considered for the team. Concerns concerning their connection and the future of cricket in India have been raised by the disclosures.

Yuvraj clarified that their mutual love of cricket was the reason he and Mahi were friends. As vice-captain and captain, he and Mahi played together and made a substantial contribution to their nation’s victory. They did, however, have different ways of making decisions.

He remembers asking Mahi for help once when he was having trouble in his career. Although Mahi informed him that the selection committee was not considering him at the moment, he was thankful for the knowledge he acquired from working with Mahi, particularly in the lead-up to the 2019 World Cup.

Team players should give their all on the pitch and for the team, Yuvraj stressed, but they don’t have to be best friends off the pitch. He recounted an instance in which he assisted Dhoni in reaching his century, and the latter returned the favour.

In addition, Yuvraj pointed out that not every member of the team will get along and that each person has a unique skill set and lifestyle. When in the park, he counselled players to set aside their egos and contribute to the game.

Former cricket player Yuvraj recalled watching an ailing Dhoni in his nineties. He remembers that in a World Cup tournament against the Netherlands, he was batting when Mahi blocked both balls, allowing Yuvraj to hit fifty runs.

He also remembers diving for him during his second run. Yuvraj also remembered the 2011 World Cup, when Dhoni left the pitch before he was due to bat following Virat Kohli’s dismissal. Yuvraj insists that the two still get along well and hang out as friends, despite what happened.

In the 2011 World Cup final, it was agreed that if Gauti was eliminated, I would go, and if Virat was dismissed, Dhoni would go. The former Indian batter expressed that professional relationships are more important than friendships, and they met as friends rather than in a mutually exclusive relationship. They also enjoyed reminiscing about their earlier days and shooting an advertisement together.
