UNITED STATES: YouTube, the popular video-sharing platform, is rolling out a new feature that allows Android and Google TV users to stream selected videos in ‘1080p Premium’ quality.

This feature, described as an enhanced bitrate version of 1080p, offers users a visually enhanced experience with crisper video quality and more intricate details.

Initially, the ‘1080p Premium’ setting was exclusively available to YouTube Premium subscribers on iOS. However, recent reports indicate that selected free users are now gaining access to this option on the Android and Google TV platforms.

This expansion of availability comes as a surprise to many, who speculated that the video streaming platform planned to make 1080p streaming exclusive to premium subscribers. Google was quick to clarify that this was not the case.

Videos with higher bitrates provide superior visual quality, making them particularly advantageous for viewers who enjoy sports or gaming content with fast-paced action and intricate details.

While free users need to manually switch to the ‘1080p Premium’ video quality, YouTube Premium subscribers will have this option enabled by default.

It is worth noting that the feature is currently limited to videos uploaded in 1080p resolution. The ‘1080p Premium’ option will not be available for shorts, live streams, or videos with resolutions higher or lower than 1080p.

As of now, ‘1080p Premium’ appears to be available only to a selected group of users, indicating that Google may be conducting internal testing or implementing a gradual rollout strategy. The company has not provided specific details regarding the expansion plans for this feature.

The introduction of ‘1080p Premium’ underscores YouTube’s commitment to enhancing the user experience by offering improved video quality options. By catering to the needs of both free users and YouTube Premium subscribers, the platform continues to be a leading destination for online video content.

YouTube enthusiasts eagerly await further updates on the availability of ‘1080p Premium’ and anticipate its potential expansion to a broader user base, enabling more viewers to enjoy enhanced video quality on their Android devices and Google TVs.
