INDIA: Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched its latest fitness band, the Mi Band 8, in its home country. The pill-shaped device features several upgrades over its predecessor, including a new strapping mechanism and watch faces that double as interactive games.
The Mi Band 8 also includes an aerobic boxing sensor to help users improve their workout routines.
One of the standout features of the Xiaomi Mi Band 8 is its 1.62-inch AMOLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and up to 600 nits of brightness.
The device also includes an always-on display feature. The user can easily swap the band attached to the chassis by pressing a button at the bottom and pulling it out.
The device supports 150+ activity modes, including the new aerobic boxing option.
Users can attach the device to one of their boxing gloves and follow the lessons within the Mi fitness app. The accelerometer in the Mi Band 8 triggers a joystick and acts like one.
Other features of the Mi Band 8 include heart rate and SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, and female menstrual cycle tracking.
The device has a 190mAh battery that can run for up to 16 days between charges in standard mode and up to 6 days with Always-On-Display enabled.
The magnet-fastenable fast charger can fully charge the device in just one hour. The Mi Band 8 can also be used as a pendant or attached to shoes to track running and walking stats.
The standard variant of the device is available for 249 yuan (Rs. 2,975) in China, and the NFC edition is available for 299 yuan (Rs. 3,575).
Xiaomi has not yet revealed its plans for a global release of the Mi Band 8, including in India.
