UNITED STATES: Earth to witness its most anticipated full moon night tomorrow, July 13, Wednesday. The Supermoon is also acknowledged as the Buck Moon. The term ‘Supermoon’ was named after astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979. NASA reported, “The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from early Tuesday morning through early Friday morning.” The first Supermoon of 2022 came into existence in June, and the third and final of the year will rise in August. The next Supermoon is expected to appear on September 18, 2024. This full moon night is a very special for everyone, as there will be a two years gap for the next Supermoon.

A Supermoon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee. The Moon will be just 3,57,264 kilometres far from the planet. Astronomers expect coastal storms at sea around the instant, which may lead to aggravated coastal flooding. However, the change in moon direction controls tidal effects, leading to an extensive range of high and low ocean tides. It is said that a new or full moon occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth. The Supermoon to be spotted on July 13 will be the biggest of the year.

There are different names for the Moon across the globe, including Thunder Moon, Hay Moon, and Wyrd Moon. Americans also call it Salmon Moon, Raspberry Moon, and Calming Moon; some even call it the strawberry moon for its red appearance over the sky. According to reports, the Moon will come to its true form at 12:07 am on July 13. NASA said, as evening twilight ends at 9:44 pm EDT (7:14 am IST), the full Moon will appear 5 degrees above the southeastern horizon.
