JAPAN: Studio Trigger’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners puts forth the intriguing notion wrapped in extremely brilliant animation that soothes our eyes with its ethereal motion and gripping story that sets in action with the fourth episode.

The Hiroyuki Imaishi directorial Cyberpunk: Edgerunners debuted on September 13, 2022, serving as a spinoff to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 game. The high-octane anime series excels with Masahiko Otsuka and Yoshiki Usa’s engaging story style. Studio Trigger’s stunning animation combines with Akira Yamaoka’s powerful yet addictive music, forming the sci-fi series’ hit formula.

The show’s voice cast includes KENN ad David, Aoi Yuki as Lucy, Hiroki Tochi as Maine, Michiko Kaiden as Dorio, Takako Honda as Kiwi, Wataru Takagi as Pilar, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Rebecca, Kazuhiko Inoue as Faraday, Yurika Hino as Gloria and Kenjiro Tsuda as Ripperdoc.

The dystopian future kindled in the mammoth story base comes to life by soulful voice actors who breathe life into all main characters. The Night City and its dreamy lights teleport us to a Cyberpunk world that throws every aspect of the human obsession with advanced technologies.

The plot is crucial in exposing the modified dystopian future with high-tech street gangs engaging in extreme violence. The way David’s character point of view unfolds the story to us, we sunk deep into the oceanic depth of every element depicted in the series. Out of all the characters, Rebecca steals the show with her hilarious lines and chaotic nature, which literally wreaks havoc.

Studio Triggers animation is the beating heart of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Every frame on the screen gives delicate details to the story canvas. The colourful yet dark visuals are a suitable choice for the Cyberpunk world. The way each sci-fi technology is depicted and the visual effects that unfold on the wielding conclude phenomenally.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners carries a bundle of R-rated stuff. The story elements showcase gory sequences plus nudity. Prepare yourself for a lot of blood on the screen whenever a fight breaks out. Every punch thrown and every bullet fired guarantees something brutal will come out, showcasing flesh-ripping scenes.

Dawid Podsiadlo’s ending theme song, “Let You Down,” also provides a relaxing vibe whenever it tunes at every episode’s end. The addictive song will definitely land on your playlist once it showers you with a soothing soundtrack.

What could have been better? 

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners brilliantly set up its world, which engages us in every aspect, but ten episodes fall short if someone wants to explore more story building.

Verdict:

Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a ten-episode anime series with a half-hour runtime for each episode. Studio Trigger’s excellent animation style and gripping sci-fi story set in a hi-tech world capture our imagination perfectly. The action series is a must for every beginner who wants to explore the new anime content and is highly recommended for sci-fi enthusiasts.
