QATAR: FIFA World Cup 2022 till now witnessed the top contenders’ faceoff in a multitude of thriller games. There are currently nine open spots for the next round after seven teams have already qualified for the knockout round.
Qualifiers for Round of 16 in FIFA World Cup 2022
England and USA Qualified from Group B
Thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden, England defeated Wales 3-0 on Tuesday to move to the World Cup round of 16.
For the team’s last Group B match, England coach Gareth Southgate decided to start the game with both players, and they answered with all three goals — two from Rashford and the other from Foden.
Wales was eliminated after placing last in its group. To advance with the Three Lions, the USA defeated Iran 1-0 in the other group B match. On Saturday at 10 a.m. ET, USA, will now take on the Netherlands.
France Qualified from Group D
The “Champion’s Curse” was broken by France, who defeated Denmark 2-0 in their final group-stage encounter to advance as the first country to the pre-quarterfinals.
Netherlands and Senegal Qualified For Group A
Netherlands defeated Qatar 2-0, and Senegal beat Ecuador famously on Tuesday at the FIFA World Cup 2022 because of a goal from Kalidou Koulibaly and a penalty kick from Ismaela Sarr.
Senegal, who defeated Ecuador 2-1 to get to the round of 16, has joined group A’s top team, Netherlands.
Brazil Qualified From Group G
In the 83rd minute, Casemiro scored a stunning goal against Switzerland to give Brazil a 1-0 lead. With the goal from the Manchester United midfielder, Brazil defeated Switzerland and advanced to the Round of 16.
Portugal Qualified from Group H
Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0 on Monday to move as the third team to the World Cup elimination stage. Midfielder Bruno Fernandes scored both goals.
All teams f Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F, Group G, and Group H are yet to be qualified.
A Crucial Match for Argentina
Meanwhile, Argentina’s chances of making it to the knockout rounds are being hindered by Poland. Even a tie with Poland would be too costly for Argentina because Saudi Arabia will decide its future.
Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia 1-2 in their opening game, but Lionel Messi’s team bounced back with a 2-0 victory over Mexico to stay in the tournament.
This World Cup is significant for Argentina since it may be Messi’s final opportunity to win the prestigious trophy in international competition.
