INDIA: Hit and Shabaash Mithu made their box office debut this weekend. The action thriller and sports drama starred prominent Bollywood stars Rajkummar Rao and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles. Despite the strong ensemble cast, both films performed poorly at the box office on their premier day.

Hit opened with a sluggish start on its opening day

The action-thriller Hit: The First Case, starring Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, is a remake of the Telegu film of the same name, released in 2020. Even though the Bollywood adaptation deviated slightly from the original, it failed to make a substantial box office debut. According to Box Office India, Hit earned roughly ₹1.15 crores on its first day, placing the Rajkummar Rao-starrer below Khuda Haafiz 2 and Rashtra Kavach Om.

Hit’s second-day box office performance was considerably higher than its first day’s, but it still needed a better start for the film to qualify as a box office success. On the second day of release, the film featuring Rajkummar Rao brought in almost ₹2 crores. The film collected around ₹2.3 on its third day.

Shabaash Mithu generated an extremely low collection than Hit on its premier day

Shabaash Mithu, a biographical sports drama starring Taapsee Pannu, is based on the life of Mithali Raj, a former captain of the Indian Women’s National Cricket team. Despite dealing with such important themes, the movie’s first-weekend box office performance was underwhelming. The Taapsee Pannu-starring film’s opening day performance was inferior to Hit. According to Box Office India, the sports drama made almost ₹40 lakhs on its premier day.

Despite the second-day rise, Shabaash Mithu performed poorly at the box office on its first Saturday. From the standpoint of the biographical drama, the second day of the sports drama’s release saw a collection of only about ₹55 lakhs, which is extremely low. The film hardly collected around ₹60 lakhs on its third day.

Hit, starring Rajkummar Rao, has currently amassed a total of about ₹5 crores, while Shabaash Mithu, starring Taapsee Pannu, has brought in a total of about ₹1.6 crores.
