The Olympic Champion McLaughlin defeated Dutch Femke Bol who placed second with 52.27s and former world champion Dalilah Muhammad, who was placed third with 53.13 respectively.

Twenty-two-year-old McLaughlin set the world record for the fourth time in 13 months. On Friday, she ran the 400-meter hurdles in 50.68 seconds at the world championships. She beat her old mark by 0.73 seconds, a ridiculous number for a race of this distance and in a time that took 33 years to adjust in the pre-McLaughlin world.

Sydney Mclaughlin is now creating history as the first woman to finish the 400m hurdle event in under 51 seconds.

“Just figuring out what barriers can be broken. I only get faster from here. The level in the 400m hurdles is certainly improving. We have a full group of girls that are willing to push our bodies to the next level and we are seeing times drop,” she commented.

“She was so far in front at the end, so I was always doubting if I really had a good race because it felt very good. Then I saw the time and I was like, ‘Wow.’ It is amazing to be a part of it and to come out second in such a race,” Femke Bol also added

Lastly, in her post-game interview, Sydney also hinted she may be considering changing events to the 400-meter flat. “I and my coach are going to go back after the season, decide if this is still an event I even want to do, or if we’re going to find something else because we’ve accomplished so much in it” said Sydney all at the World Championship held in Oregon.
