The U.S. has reported more than 7 million cases and 203,000 deaths. According to an analysis of Johns Hopkins data, seven states in the U.S. has set records for new cases in a week. The seven states include Minnesota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, North Dakota has a record number of deaths in a single week.

The U.S. death toll from the virus is most likely to double by January 1. Researchers have warned that to combat the virus’ spread strict restrictions are needed.

COVID-19 restrictions to ease up in Florida

Meanwhile, the Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis has lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on restaurants and businesses. In an open statement, DeSantis said that the COVID-19 restrictions were been lifted to reopen the state’s economy. He also said that the state is prepared if COVID-19 cases increase again.

The Phase 3 order will allow theme parks to function at full capacity and lift any restrictions on public gatherings. However, the government is still recommending people to avoid crowded places. Meanwhile, in Virginia, Gov. Ralph Northam and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.

In an open statement on Friday, a WHO official said that the COVID-19 cases will increase rapidly in the coming months. The head of WHO’s emergency program, Dr Mike Ryan said in a statement, “In the absence of increased testing, social distancing, mask-wearing and other measures needs to be taken to slow the spread of the virus.”
