‘Connecting Pathways’ – a Music Event to Boost the Cultural Ties Between Netherlands and India

The cross-cultural music event will be based on themes of gratitude, harmony, healing, thankfulness and meditation

INDIA. New Delhi: The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has organized a virtual music launch for December 15. The event is an Indo-Dutch musical journey, people-to-people connect titled ‘Connecting Pathways.’ It is in collaboration with Serendipity Arts, Strings of the World and boxout.fm in its continuing effort to boost the cultural ties between Netherlands and India.

The music event is to take place on December 15, 1830-1930 IST over Zoom and live on Facebook.

All through the pandemic, music has played an important role in keeping our spirits high. As part of ‘Connecting Pathways,’ three musicians from each of both countries will come together to perform five soulful instrumental theme songs. The event will be moderated by Murtaza Ali Khan, an Indian art critic and journalist.

Renowned Indian violinist Sharat Chandra Srivastava, Mridangam maestro M V Chandrashekar, and noted sitarist Fateh Ali Khan make the group of Indian musicians. The Dutch include celebrated tabla player and composer Heiko Dijker, noted pianist Rembrandt Frerichs and renowned cellist Maya Fridman.

‘Connecting Pathways’ with ecstatic musicians

Sharing his thoughts on the event, Srivastava said, “Connecting Pathways is a beautiful concert featuring a collaboration between Indian and Dutch musicians. This is a very unique collaboration under Strings of the World where we are jamming and creating new music with our fellow musicians from the Netherlands and India.”

Speaking about the initiative, Smriti Rajgarhia, Director of Serendipity Arts Foundation & Festival said, “We at Serendipity Arts are happy to partner with the Netherlands Embassy of India for this august Indo-Dutch initiative, furthering the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange between the two nations and bringing our diverse cultures together to support artistic innovation and experimentation. We are excited to be a part of this cultural exchange, driving dialogue through the arts”.

Speaking about the concert, Dijker said, “It’s indeed heartening that during these difficult and challenging times we have still managed to collaborate internationally on such a beautiful project. It’s really wonderful to be collaborating with some of the greatest musicians from the Netherlands and India. Let’s join hands and let out paths cross and share beauty and bliss of music.”

Some of the compositions for the event include ‘Glistering Waves’ – all about the Covid-19 pandemic and in the memory of the beautiful souls lost during the last two years, ‘Garden Lounge’ – about the importance of healing and ‘Flying Beyond’ is about harmony, going deeper and further into our consciousness, using music as the path.
