INDIA: World Music Day, also known as Make Music Day, is annually celebrated on June 21 to honor musicians and their contributions to the music industry.
The day also encourages veterans and amateur musicians to make music and exhibit their talent in their neighborhoods or parks. For music lovers and budding artists, people in over 120 countries organize free public concerts in stadiums or public places so it’s accessible to all.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown this year, people are most likely to celebrate the beautiful art form virtually at home.
History
Music Day or Fête de la Musique originated in France in the year 1982. Along with French composer, Maurice Fleuret, the then Minister of Art and Culture, Jack Lange, first observed the event on the Summer Solstice.
On that day, free live music was played for the citizens of France on the street and the mountain tops. After that day Music Day became popular in almost all the countries around the globe.
Since then, France witnesses tourists from all over the world during Fete de la Musique. People also participate in fairs, fests, parades, feasts and dance parties to commemorate the day.
