NIGERIA. Niger State: The Niger state chapter of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) celebrates the 2021 World Engineering Day with Orphans and the Sick in Niger state.
The Engineers donated food items like rice, noodles, tea, sugar, milk and toiletries to the Niger State Government orphanage.
The Association also made cash distributions to patients at the General Hospital, Minna to help the patients meet some needs that would require money.
Reason for the Outreach
The reason for the outreach, according to the Niger state NSE Chairman, Mrs Elizabeth Eterigho, is to make the people feel the impact of the association.
She said that the donations made to the orphanage will help the Orphans have more food to eat while the donations made to the Sick in the hospital is to enable them to have cash at hand to buy drugs or pay for any services they may need while in admission.
Theme of 2021 World Engineering Day
The World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development is celebrated every 4th of March every year. It is a UNESCO international day of celebration of engineers and engineering.

The theme for the 2021 World Engineering Day is “Engineering for A Healthy Planet- Celebrating the UNESCO Engineering Report”,
Eterigho described the theme for the 2021 World Engineering Day as apt saying that the quest for a healthy planet would require the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
According to the NSE Chairman, the planet at the moment is threatened by the activities of humans stressing that something needs to be done immediately.
Thankful for the Donations
The Public Information Officer of the General Hospital Minna, Mrs Deborah Bilya expressed appreciation for the donations saying it will go a long way in meeting the needs of the patients.
She said that the hospital needs stretchers and wheelchairs and would be appreciative if individuals and organizations would extend their hands of assistance to the hospital.
The Officer in Charge of the Niger State Orphanage home in Minna, Mrs Mama Wakili Lapai said that the donation of food and toiletries made by the Engineers would go a long way in supporting the children at the facility.
