INDIA. Haryana: A 21-year-old woman was shot dead in Haryana on Monday. The deceased was a student of Agrawal College at Ballabgarh town. The incident took place outside the victim’s college. The accused were trying to abduct the victim but they failed. The failed abduction attempt was caught on a CCTV camera.
Two men tried to abduct victim Nikita Tomar in the afternoon at Faridabad’s Ballabgarh. When the victim tried to resist, one of the accused shot her with a revolver. The brutal murder was caught in CCTV camera footage.
The men involved in the murder have been arrested by the Haryana police. Both the accused, Tausif and Rehan are residents of Nuh in Haryana.
Meanwhile, the woman’s family has linked the killing to ‘love jihad’. Love Jihad is an Islamophobic conspiracy theory. It is believed that Muslim men target women belonging to non-Muslim communities for conversion to Islam by feigning love in the name of ‘love jihad’. The family claimed that the woman was attacked outside her college by a Muslim man who was infatuated by her.
Earlier, the victim’s family had filed a case by the victim’s family against Tausif in 2018. In a statement, Haryana Police Commissioner, OP Singh said, “In 2018, Nikita’s family filed a kidnapping case against Tausif but the family later said they did not want to take action. We have arrested accused Tausif now.”
This incident of ‘love jihad’ angered many people in Haryana. On Tuesday, a group of protestors broke into a shop in Faridabad and created a ruckus. The Haryana police tried to control the situation. However, the protestors staged a demonstration and blocked the road. Meanwhile, protests are going on outside the victim’s college. The protestors are demanding stringent punishment to the accused.
