INDIA: In a move aimed at enhancing user privacy and convenience, WhatsApp is reportedly working on introducing a username feature that will enable users to set unique usernames for their accounts, similar to other popular social media platforms.
This new feature, currently under development, will be accessible through the app’s settings, according to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo.
Traditionally, WhatsApp has relied solely on phone numbers to identify contacts and facilitate communication. However, with the upcoming username feature, users will have the option to add an extra layer of privacy to their accounts.
Instead of sharing their contact numbers, users can choose a unique username that will serve as their identifier within the WhatsApp ecosystem.

By long-pressing a sent message, users can select the “Edit” option, allowing them to rectify mistakes without the need for deleting and re-sending the message.
To maintain transparency, edited messages will be labelled as “edited” without displaying the edit history. This preserves the integrity of conversations while allowing users to refine their communication for accuracy and clarity.
The edit button feature has begun its global rollout and will become available to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks. This feature will undoubtedly be a welcome addition, giving users the flexibility to amend their messages promptly and efficiently.
