West Indies: West Indies defeats Australia by 18 runs to go 1-0 in the five-match T20 International series between Australia and West Indies. The match was played at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground at Saint Lucia. Australia’s 100 percent winning record at this venue in T20Is has come to an end after this defeat against West Indies.

Australia won the toss and they decided to bowl first which was a good decision because Australia picked some early wickets to put West Indies on the backfoot. West Indies top-order batsmen failed to score runs at a good strike rate and at the end of 16 overs West Indies were 101 with the loss of 5 wickets. That’s when Andre Russell showed why he is one of the most dangerous T20I batsmen of this time as he scored a quickfire 51 of just 28 balls at a strike rate of 182.14 and his innings consisted of 5 sixes and 3 fours.

Russell took West Indies to a respectable total and West Indies finished their innings at 145/6 after the completion of 20 overs.
When Australia came to bat their skipper Aaron Finch got out cheaply, but Australian opener Matthew Wade scored a blistering 33 of just 14 balls. Wade gave Australia the start they needed and at the end of 5 over Australia was 53/3. This chase was looking easy as after 10 overs Australia needed less than a run per ball. But Obed McCoy and Hayden Walsh had some other plans. McCoy took 4 wickets and Walsh took 3 wickets to derail the Australian innings.

Mitchell Marsh played well as he made 51 off just 31 delivery’s but the lack of support from the other end made him lose his concentration and he got out. After Marsh, none of the other Australian batsmen’s scored any significant runs as Australia lost the game and West Indies are now 1-0 up in the five-match series.
