INDIA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee made an official account of the reshuffling of the state cabinet. Some unaccustomed faces will be introduced, says Banerjee. The action came into place amid Partho Mukherjee’s WBSSC scam. Banerjee made a statement to clarify her decision, “Partha is in jail; Subrato Mukherjee and Sadhan Pandey have passed away. There are vacant posts that need to be filled up.” Mukherjee, the position head, passed away last year; he was in charge of various important portfolios, including the Panchayat department.
According to sources, four current ministers will be deposed, and their services will be redirected toward the Trinamool Congress party’s strengthening. West Bengal has unveiled seven new districts, bringing the total to 30. Sunderban, Behrampur, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, and Ichhemati are six of the seven new districts. The remaining area will be known as the Basirhat region. This entire decision of the Mamata government triggered the opposition party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party claims TMC is diverting the SSC scam case. BJP leader and the party’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya put a question against the decision: “Mamata Banerjee must explain where a debt trapped WB Govt gets money to run new districts?”
The party President of West Bengal BJP, Sukanta Majumdar, opposed the Mamata government’s decision to shuffle cabinet ministers and impeached her for misleading the SSC scam case.
During a media interaction, he said, “Due to the corruption cases coming to the fore in West Bengal, the people of Bengal have understood that the entire government is a thief. The thief will leave, and another new thief will appear, and he will begin stealing again with his new energy; nothing will change.” He went on to say that “if Banerjee had made the right decision in this matter, then there would be a loss for the BJP in the coming elections, but not a total political loss.”
