ISRAEL: The Palestinian Health Ministry has reported a significant increase in the death toll in the West Bank and Gaza Strip due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

As of the latest update, the death toll stands at 2,383, with at least 10,814 people injured. This crisis has had a devastating impact, with Gaza experiencing 2,329 deaths and 9,714 injuries, while the West Bank has seen 54 deaths and 1,100 injuries.

Reports indicate that an anti-armor missile launched from Lebanon into an Israeli border town has resulted in the deaths of at least four people, according to the Israeli army.

Following this attack, the Israeli army is taking retaliatory measures against Lebanon. The attack targeted the village of Shtula, which is situated near the border and confronts the Lebanese town of Ayta a-Shab.

In a diplomatic effort to address the ongoing conflict, United States President Joe Biden held conversations with Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday.

During the call, President Abbas stressed the urgent need for the establishment of humanitarian assistance corridors in Gaza.

This conversation marks a renewed diplomatic engagement between Biden and Abbas, following the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Hamas on October 7.

As the situation escalates, the United States has directed the Eisenhower aircraft carrier strike group, the second in the U.S. Navy’s fleet, to the Eastern Mediterranean. This move is intended to reaffirm the United States’ unwavering support for Israel.

During a recent visit to Israel, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized the importance of deterring hostile actions against Israel and preventing any further expansion of the conflict in response to Hamas’s attack on Israel.
