Veteran Stage and Film Actor Vikram Gokhale on Ventilator Support

INDIA. Mumbai : The health condition of veteran stage and film actor Vikram Gokhale (82), who was admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, deteriorated, and he was kept on life support on Wednesday night.

Gokhale was admitted to the hospital when he complained of diabetes ailment and dehydration a fortnight ago. His condition worsened, and he was not responding to treatment.

The news of his demise spread like wildfire, and social media was abuzz with condolence messages. However, his family sources maintained that he was still on a ventilator, and doctors have not pronounced his death,

Vrushali Gokhale, the actor’s wife, said that Gokhale was still alive. “He slipped into a coma yesterday afternoon, and post that; he has not responded to touch. He is on a ventilator. Doctors will decide tomorrow morning what to do, depending on whether he’s improving, sinking, or still not responding,” she added.

She stated that Vikram Gokhale has been in Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital since November 5. He improved a bit but slipped again. “He has had a host of issues in the heart and kidneys. He also experienced multi-organ failure.”

New Delhi tweeted at 12.08 am on Thursday that “Sad News: Veteran Marathi actor Vikram Gokhale has passed away at a hospital in Pune. He was 82. He was one of the finest talented actors, and his contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema for his performances will always be remembered. His character in ‘Natsamrat’ touched hearts.”

“Vikram Gokhale Sir brought a lot of gravitas to the roles he essayed. He always stood tall. I had the good fortune of sharing screen time with him. His passing away is very sad. I pray his soul finds eternal peace. RIP Vikram, Sir. Condolences to his family. Shanti,” actor Ajay Devgan tweeted.

Gokhale is best known for his roles in films like Agneepath (1990), Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), and Mission Mangal (2019), to name a few. All these films were super duper hits at the box office back then. 

He has been an established actor in Marathi cinema as well. In 2010, he became a recipient of the National Award in the Best Actor category for his performance in the Marathi film “Anumati.” He also made his directorial debut with the Marathi film “Aaghaat.” 

In June 2022, he was last seen in the “Abhimanyu Dassani” and Shilpa Shetty-starrer “Nikamma.” Some time back, he hosted a program called “Doosari Baju” on Mumbai Doordarshan. Recently he played a role in the Marathi TV serial “Tujhech Mee Geet Gat Ahe” on Star Pravah. His Marathi film “Godavari” was released this month.
