INDIA: The Mumbai Indians (MI) won by 5 wickets against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, April 16th, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
MI won the toss and elected to bowl first against the Nitish Rana-led KKR. KKR saw a solid performance from Venkatesh Iyer, who scored a brilliant century (104 off 51) to take Kolkata to a challenging total of 185/6 in 20 overs.
However, he did not get much support from the other batters, and Mumbai was able to restrict Kolkata to under 200 by being excellent in the death overs, conceding only 45 runs in the last five overs. Andre Russell (21* off 11 balls) was another significant contributor.
Hrithik Shokeen from MI was able to take two wickets and help restrict KKR to a reasonable total. The big news of the day was Arjun Tendulkar’s debut for Mumbai, which added more excitement to the match.
In response to KKR’s total, MI started explosively in the Power Play, scoring a whopping 72 runs. Ishan Kishan (58 off 25 balls, 5 fours, and as many sixes) was the bulk scorer in this start, giving MI a solid foundation to chase the total.
