UNITED STATES: President Biden of the United States has stated that he is prepared to visit war-torn Ukraine in the near future. The US president was asked if he’d deploy authorities to Ukraine in a video released by Nexta on Twitter.
He stated, “We’re making that decision right now.”
“Yeah,” Biden answered when asked if he was ready to visit the European country.
Biden’s remarks come amid allegations that the US is considering deploying high-ranking officials to Ukraine.
The President has stated that top US authorities will soon decide whether or not to send a senior diplomat to Kyiv to show support for Ukraine.
According to the reports, a source close to the matter indicated on Wednesday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin or Secretary of State Antony Blinken could go, but that Biden is doubtful.
Biden pledged an additional $800 million in military aid to Ukraine on Wednesday.
Biden also announced that he had approved the deployment of additional helicopters, stating that the equipment handed to Ukraine had been “vital” in the face of the invasion.
“Now is not the time to relax. The American people will continue to stand with the brave Ukrainian people in their fight for independence, as I pledged President Zelenskyy,” he stated.
Russia labelled its activities in Ukraine a “special operation” aimed at destroying Ukraine’s military capabilities and apprehending “dangerous nationalists,” while Ukraine and the West say Russia launched an unprovoked attack.
Russia announced on Wednesday that it had taken control of Mariupol, a port in southern Ukraine and that more than 1,000 Ukrainian marines had surrendered.
