UN Chief Antonio Guterres to Have an Official Gujarat Tour

INDIA: UN chief Antonio Guterres landed in India today, receiving a warm welcome from the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj and Shombi Sharp, the Coordinator in India.

The spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, took to Twitter to welcome the foreign friend, writing, “Warm welcome to the UNSG @antonioguterres as he arrives in Mumbai for his official visit to India from 18-20 October 2022.”

UN leader Antonio Guterres will have a three-day visit to India. He initiated his first visit by paying homage to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Moreover, Antonio Guterres will be visiting Gujarat accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kevadiya. The UN secretary-general will pay floral tributes to former Deputy PM Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the United Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, followed by visiting some key attractions of the state.

UN chief Antonio Guterres will also visit the Statue of Unity and the village of Modhera, which is renowned for its 24×7 solar power technology. He also wishes to visit the famous sun temple of Gujarat as he marks his first visit to India since he began his second tenure in the office earlier this year.

As per an official statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, Guterres will discuss with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and has already addressed students at IIT Bombay on the topic, “India @75: UN-India Partnership: Strengthening South-South Cooperation.”

As per a senior BJP leader, “The party has been directed to make arrangements for live-streaming of the prime minister’s launch of the LiFe Mission logo and the UN secretary-visit general’s to the solar-powered village at Modhera. (Guterres’ visit) is a strong appreciation from the international community of Modi’s ground-breaking initiatives.”
