UN Calls For Investigations On Cameroon Soldiers

CAMEROON. Yaounde: In an open statement, Francois Launcey Fall, Central Africa and Head of the United Nations said that the Cameroon soldiers should be investigated for shooting innocent civilians during a weekend raid.

It is alleged that the soldiers entered Mautu village in the Southwest of the country and then started raiding homes.

“We are deeply concerned and saddened by the attack on Mautu that claimed the lives of many civilians. I call for Investigations into this attack,” said Fall on his Twitter page.

Meanwhile, the office of the British High Commission in Yaounde has also called for an urgent and impartial investigation with perpetrators being brought to book.

For around four years, the Cameroon soldiers have been fighting ‘English speaking separatists’ in the forests and cocoa farms.

The violence has so far claimed over 3000 lives.
In a statement, Medicines San Frontiers said that it had treated people from Mautu with gunshot wounds including women and children.

According to the reports, three soldiers are facing trial for allegedly being involved in the killing of 21 civilians in the North West region of the country.
