According to the reports, the first doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19 has arrived at secure locations in the country. Despite the colossal complexities, hospitals will launch the primary period of the biggest scale immunization crusade from Tuesday. In the first wave, around 50 shortlisted hubs will get access to the vaccine.
Frontline medical services staff, individuals beyond 80 years old, and care home laborers will be among the first to get the vaccine as a part of Phase 1 of the program. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are expected to be among the first to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) had affirmed that the immunization is safe for human use against COVID-19 after thorough checks. Meanwhile, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has claimed to offer up to 95 percent protection against COVID-19.
“This coming week will be a historic moment as we begin vaccination against Covid-19,” said UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock. “I urge everybody to play their part to suppress this virus and follow the local restrictions to protect the NHS while they carry out this crucial work,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said that the NHS staff were working on the weekend for the first COVID-19 vaccination program. Patients aged 80 and above will be among the first to receive the “life-saving jab”.
