UNITED KINGDOM: UK diplomats have traveled to Afghanistan on Tuesday to meet senior Taliban members. As per the reports, the UK government has discussed measures that can be taken to prevent terrorism.
The UK diplomats said they discussed how the UK could help address the humanitarian crisis and the need for a safe passage for those who wish to leave the country. The diplomats also raised the issues related to the rights of women and girls and the treatment of minorities.
Afghanistan has been under the Taliban’s control since August. The UK troops left Afghanistan at the end of August bringing an end to a 20-year military involvement in the country.
With their departure, the Taliban troops rapidly advanced through the country and removed the Afghan government. British embassy staff in Kabul were forced to evacuate the country to escape Taliban forces and are temporarily based in Qatar.

The meeting which is scheduled on Wednesday marks the first time British diplomats have gone back to Kabul to meet the new Taliban leadership. As part of efforts to open up channels of communications with the Taliban, Sir Simon Gass, the prime minister’s high representative for Afghan transition, and Martin Longden chargé d’affaires of the UK mission to Afghanistan in Doha traveled to the country.
Meanwhile, secondary schools in Afghanistan’s Kunduz province have now opened for girls, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen said in a video shared on Twitter.
The video shows many girls in black dresses and white scarves, some with veils, waving Taliban flags. “Girls are going to high schools in Khan Abad, Kunduz Province,” tweeted Doha-based Shaheen, who has been nominated as the new Afghan government’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
