UNITED STATES: Donald Trump’s public release of his mugshot in Fulton County, Georgia, and his surrender amid allegations of election rigging has increased his lead over his opponents in polls. Trump maintains decisive leads in all categories, including the general election, head-to-head battle, and favorability ratings, surpassing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Trump has seen significant gains in polling and fundraising with each indictment this year, including the New York hush-money case, Florida secret papers case, and Washington federal 2020 election subversion case.
DeSantis’ campaign points, including his claim of being more electable than Trump, have fallen flat with likely Republican voters despite his absence from the debate stage.
Trump’s mugshot and skipping of the first GOP debate suggest he has not lost support from potential Republican primary voters. Overall, among the 2,700 potential Republican primary voters questioned by Coefficient, Trump polled at 58%, DeSantis at 13%, and his lead increased by three points since the beginning of the month. No one else received more than 10%.
The Trump team’s polling aligns with Morning Consult’s, showing Trump’s lead remains unaffected after his mugshot and first Republican primary debate. Trump polls at 58%, DeSantis at 14%, and no other contenders rise beyond 10%. The poll predicts that even if all rivals withdraw, Trump would defeat DeSantis by over two to one.
The percentage of voters in Fulton County who believed Trump was guilty of accusations decreased by 11% after his surrender, while 74% believed he was being indicted to prevent him from running for president. This survey comes just six months before the 2024 primary election, suggesting Trump’s political landscape may change.
The trial of Donald Trump, who allegedly rigged the 2020 election, is set to begin on March 4, 2024, just before Republican primaries in 15 states.
