INDIA/CANADA: Michael Rubin, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a former Pentagon official, has stated that Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau “made a huge mistake” by alleging that India was involved in the death of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
“Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has made a huge mistake. He has made allegations in a manner which he has not been able to back. There are two possibilities here, either he was shooting from the hip, and he does not have the evidence to support the accusations he made against the Indian govt, or there is something there, in which case he needs to explain why his govt was sheltering a terrorist with blood on his hands,” said Rubin.
Rubin slammed PM Trudeau for failing to provide evidence to support his statements. The former Pentagon official added that when Justin Trudeau says trust him, no one believes him even in the best of circumstances.
Rubin remarked that this is especially true given that the Canadian PM is currently losing an electoral campaign.
India-Canada relations have significantly deteriorated following Trudeau’s accusation of Indian involvement in the assassination of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The former Pentagon official further stated that there’s a much greater danger for Canada than India. He remarked that if Canada wants to pick a battle, it’s like an ant picking a fight against an elephant at this time.
“And the fact of the matter is that India is the world’s largest democracy,” he added.
According to Rubin, it is significantly more strategic than Canada, especially as worry develops about China and other issues in the Pacific and Indian Ocean basins.
Earlier this week, the Indian government issued a cautionary advisory for Indian citizens, including students living in Canada and those considering visiting the country, advising them “to exercise utmost caution.”
The advisory from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of the Indian government has been released due to the escalating anti-India activities and the presence of politically sanctioned hate crimes and criminal violence in Canada.
