SPAIN: Spain is planning to open up to all travelers worldwide soon. But, there will be a catch; you have to have a digital health passport with you. Digital health passports, also called vaccine passports, will be a digital proof of vaccination against Covid-19, as well as other coronavirus test results or health waivers. It surely is not an official travel document, but digital health passports are certainly going to have a huge impact on travel in the new normal. This will be equally applicable for international and domestic travel as a digital health passport will allow people to travel without the need for quarantine.
Travelers around the world are eager to travel again and have already started planning their next holidays. The world is witnessing more vaccine approvals and their efficient distribution, and also with people responding and taking vaccines. It’s time now, for Spain’s travel industry to attract the world again to its amazing tourism potential. It’s also the time to revive connections with customers and planning new travel products.
This week at the World Travel & Tourism Council summit in Mexico, Spain’s Secretary of State for Tourism Fernando Valdés announced that a digital certificate would show proof of vaccination, a recent negative COVID-19 test, or recent recovery from the illness to grant access for travelers from overseas.
Valdés said at the conference that the country will be “ready to receive visitors in June” and that the digital program would be “fundamental to offering travelers certainty,” according to Spanish news agency Europa Press via The Guardian.
“We are doing a pilot program in May, in all our 46 airports,” he said. “We are going to give all these travelers that certainty. Spain is going to be ready in June to tell all travelers worldwide that you can visit us.”
Following up Spain, several other countries in Europe are introducing their own digital vaccine passports ahead of the summer travel season. Countries like the UK and Denmark have announced their plans, alongside Asian countries like Japan and China.
