In addition to behemoth records, the industry gives a perfect blend of rooted and action-packed stories, which have proven to be a hit recipe since its inception.
Here is the list of Tollywood films that created a box-office tsunami in 2022
1. RRR
It’s the obvious title joining the list and, most importantly, the one that has embedded the name of Indian Cinema with a golden impression on a global level. Highly talented Tollywood filmmaker SS. Rajamouli and maverick storyteller V. Vijayendra Prasad fused their creative minds to bring RRR to the big screens.
After its huge success in India, Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer film is continuing its record-breaking spree with Japanese and United States box office releases. Until now, the Telugu action film has bagged ₹ 1,200 crores globally, given the movie’s worldwide craze. Seeing its record-breaking collection, it seems that the box office number will continue to grow.
2. Sarkaru Vaari Paata
Mahesh Babu starrer Sarkarau Varri Paata is the second highest-grossing Tollywood film of 2022. Parasuram, the man in the directors’ chair of Geetha Govindam (2018), returned this time for another humongous entertainer with the star power of the Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu.
In addition to Mahesh Babu, Keerthy Suresh joined the star cast in the lead role. Made on a budget of 60 crores, the Telugu action drama bagged a whopping collection of ₹ 230 crores.
3. Bheemla Nayak
The name of Power Star Pawan Kalyan in the lead role is enough to attract the audience to the big screens. Saagar K Chandra’s directorial Tollywood film also stars Rana Daggubati and Nithya Menon in the lead. The actioner movie is a remake of Prithviraj starrer Ayyappanum, a 2020 Malayalam film.
Despite the film being a remake, Pawan Kalyan’s star power skyrocketed the box office numbers on a budget of ₹ 70 crores. The action thriller collected in a range of ₹ 161 to ₹ 252 crores landing in the third spot of the highest-grossing Telugu films.
4. Radhe Shyam
Coming on the fourth spot is Prabhas starrer Radhe Shyam. Radha Krishna Kumar’s directorial Tollywood film also stars Pooja Hegde in the lead. The romantic drama feature opened to a massive response from viewers on its trailer release. However, the movie failed to meet the audience’s expectations and fell flat on the ground.
Made on a whopping budget of ₹ 300 to ₹ 350 crores, Radhe Shyam managed to collect in the range of ₹ 151 to ₹ 214 crores. Given the undermining box office figures, the romantic drama film underperformed at the box office.
5. F3: Fun and Frustration
Daggubati Venkatesh starrer F3: Fun and Frustration lands in the fifth spot on the list. Anil Ravipudi added his directorial vision to the film serving as a sequel to F2 (2019). In addition to Venkatesh, the Tollywood comedy feature also stars Varun Tej, Tamannaah, and Mehreen Pirzada in lead roles.
The Telugu movie propelled at the box office with a budget of ₹ 70 crores, attracting a huge number of viewers to big screens. Venkatesh starrer film managed to cast its spell on family audiences who helped to rake up ₹ 134 crores at the box office.
