INDIA. Goa: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the demolition of Curlies restaurant, where late actor and BJP leader Sonali Phogat was allegedly drugged in Goa, on the condition that no commercial activities take place there.
The urgent hearing came into place amid the death of Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and actor Sonali Phogat.
The Curlies Restaurant in Goa received orders of demolition from the Supreme Court on Friday, 9th September, further, there will be no commercial activities taking place.
The late leader was drugged and murdered by her close aides, meanwhile, a clip of her partying at the outlet hours before her demise in the Restaurant came as a ray of light into the suspicious case. The Goa government started demolishing the disputed restaurant at Anjuna in North Goa today.
The famous attraction of youth in Anjuna beach is the Curlies restaurant located in Goa and during the ongoing investigation, ‘the cat came out of the bag’ because the property has violated coastal regulation zone norms.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday upheld the authority’s earlier order to demolish the shack.
Earlier, Curlies restaurant owner Edwin Nunes was granted conditional bail by a local court on a personal bond of ₹30,000 and two sureties of ₹15,000 each. Advocate Kamalakant Poulekar, Edwin Nunes’ lawyer, said Nunes could not visit the Curlies and needed permission before leaving Goa.
The entire action taken by the jurisdiction after the alleged restaurant after the owner failed to get any respite from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) was inimical to the 2016 demolition order of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA). In the high-profile murder case of Phogat Edwin Nunes, the owner of the restaurant was among five persons who got arrested and later granted bail.
According to reports, “The demolition squad of the district administration along with Anjuna police personnel arrived at the beach around 7.30 am to demolish the restaurant that was built in ‘no development zone in violation of the CRZ norms.”
The apex body of the court said, “There shall be staying on demolition concerning the structure in Survey No. 42.10 subject to the appellants not undertaking any commercial activities in respect of structures,” the court said.
The Curlies Restaurant came into the limelight after Phogat unknowingly consumed ‘Methamphetamine drugs’.The leader felt uneasy after consuming the toxic drug, unfortunately, she couldn’t figure out the odds against her and lost her life to it. Later, during the police investigation, the whole murder execution was figured out.
