INDIA. Maharashtra: With 2020 behind us, the year 2021 has brought hope to the world at large. 2020 has been a year of new learnings; the sufferings, and the wisdom in enduring them to find a better way to live and deal with life’s challenges in a novel way. Every year typically has a few defining moments, but the past year has contained many world-changing developments. It was hard to believe that we’re not in a simulation that’s running every possible scenario at once.

COVID-19 has taken a toll on everyone’s mental health and different individuals had coping strategies to get over the tough time.

In this time, reading has been an important remedy for me. In this article, I am going to share my top three favorite books that had a great impact on me. These three books have touched my heart this year. I read and re-read these books over and over again for deeper understanding and absorbing the secrets that the authors have given to posterity.

The Alchemist- By Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist is a book that I always go back to. The book is compelling with innumerable lessons about how an individual must follow his/her dreams. The Alchemist is a story about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who leaves Spain on a hunt to follow his dream which lies hidden like a treasure in distant Egypt. The treasure, which is hidden in the pyramids. From a camel driver to a well-read English person, he encounters many spiritual masters in his journey.

During his journey, he learns that an Alchemist is a person who can turn metal into gold. However,  the meaning of Alchemy does not limit to transforming lead into gold. It’s about finding one’s destiny just like the destiny of lead that endures high temperatures and finally gets converted to gold.

The entire novel is a soul searching exercise and the author has brought out his wisdom in this novel with extraordinary storytelling skills, coupled with a message at every stage to the readers.

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari- By Robin Sharma

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari brings out the collective wisdom of the east and the west. This inspiring tale provides a step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, and joy. The book is highly philosophical, a fable that would appeal to the masses around the world.

A wonderfully crafted story, the book revolves around a simple man named Julian Mantle, who is rich, famous, and a lawyer. Mantle owns a Ferrari but has to sell it later to search for his inner happiness and truth. He renounces all his material wealth and comes to India to learn the art and science of divine inner peace, happiness, and contentment. He shares his wisdom to teach everyone about how to gain a balance in the human heart between inward and outward objects of reality.

The entire novel is sparkling with life’s truths, which we, humans must learn whilst embarking on a journey of existential living, surviving, and growing to become rich and famous. The book teaches us that one must act as if they have unlimited power and must believe that only their mind is stopping them from getting where they want to go.

IKIGAI – By Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles

IKIGAI is a Japanese word that means “a reason to live”. It is an art of doing things with joy and focus. The book deals with a new concept that is practiced on the island of Okinawa, Japan. It dwells on the importance of purpose in a person’s life. Whether you are 20 or 110 years old every person in this cosmos has a purpose in life. This book teaches us to retain a balance in health, and happiness while being passionate about life and living it beautifully.

The feeling of bliss emanated in me after having read these books in the year 2020. All three books are international bestsellers and dwell on the importance of inner conquest, to remain calm and blissful. Everyone must read these books at least once in their life. Trust me, these books are going to leave you spellbound.
