INDIA: A boy from Ranchi has achieved it all. MS Dhoni is now the most successful captain of India, the world, and even the entire history of cricket. No one has ever achieved more success than Dhoni as a captain. MS Dhoni has won all the major trophies in the cricketing world. Here is the list:
1 × ICC ODI World Cup
1 × ICC T20 World Cup
1 × ICC Champions Trophy
2 × Asia Cup
5 × IPL Trophy
2 × CLT20 Trophy
1× CB Series 2008
1× Compaq Cup 2009
1 × Tri-Nation Series
3 × Border-Gavaskar Trophy
MS Dhoni claimed his 5th IPL title against the Gujarat Titans (GT) last night, and it was an absolutely thrilling game. Dhoni now equals Rohit Sharma’s (skipper of the Mumbai Indians) record of the most titles in the IPL as a captain.
It’s worth noting that while Dhoni played in the 2016 and 2017 IPL, he did not lead the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017, in which MI won against RPS in the finals. So despite missing two consecutive IPL seasons in 2016 and 2017, CSK has played 12 playoff games under Dhoni’s captaincy.
While many speculated that this might be MS Dhoni’s last IPL, he said in the previous game’s post-match presentation that he might give his fans a gift by participating in the IPL 2024.
Despite being aware that it might be even more physically demanding given his age of 41 and his ongoing knee condition, Dhoni added that he has nine months to make the big decision regarding his participation in the IPL 2024.
Regardless of his participation in the IPL 2024, he already has a legacy behind him. The love and support he got in this IPL might not be something you see with any other player in the coming future.
There was only one name in the crowd in this entire season of IPL, and it was “Dhoni Dhoni”, Whenever it was time for the “Thala” to bat, the crowd went berserk, and the Jio Cinema viewers skyrocketed.
It doesn’t matter if it’s 4 or 5 balls; the fans just wanted to see Dhoni bat, even if it was just a single ball, and if you listen to Hindi commentary, Aakash Chopra’s “aur ye mahi firse mar raha hai” was just adding to the thrill whenever he hit sixes.
Dhoni himself acknowledged the love and support he received from his fans. Ravindra Jadeja also said that every member of the team was playing just to get the 5th title for MS Dhoni. The level of support and dedication towards Dhoni shows the kind of team and aura he has created in his cricketing journey; even Hardik Pandya, captain of GT, said “If I had to lose, I don’t mind losing to MS Dhoni.”
Dhoni is already retired from international One Day, T2O, and Test cricket; the only connection he has with the game is the IPL, and after Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning four, it was written in Dhoni’s face that he was thinking about the long journey he had. He also shed a couple of tears while he was hugging Jadeja. Just like every other game, he led the yellow army to another IPL title.
