UNITED KINGDOM: The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, suffered a major setback when its UK distribution was cancelled. The British Board of Film Certification took this measure because the film was not given an age classification or content advisory.
States like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu banned the film after receiving widespread complaints from citizens. However, the film’s strong storyline helped it break into the 100-crore club at the box office. This made it the fourth picture this year to reach this milestone.
The film performed remarkably well in international markets but trailed behind in the United States because of our strict standards. Viewers pre-booked the film at a rate of 95%, but when they received the email, “Due to the lack of age certification for The Kerala Story by the BBFC, we have had to cancel the booking you made, they were understandably dissatisfied. A complete reimbursement has been issued. We regret any trouble this may have caused.” Moviegoers are speaking out against this move and demanding a refund immediately.
The BBFC said, “The Kerala Story is still undergoing our classification process. Once the film has received a BBFC age rating and content advice, it will be available to be screened in UK cinemas.”
Meanwhile, Suresh Varsani, director of the movie’s UK distributor, 24 SEVEN FLIX4U, raised a complaint stating, “I am very suspicious that they have not given a valid reason. Why do they need more time when they have had three days? I have never come across a situation like this where a film has not been classified when it is meant to be released. The USA, India, Australia, Canada, and Ireland have all passed it. I don’t get what the issue is.”
