TANZANIA. Dodoma: Tanzanian President Jonh Magufuli and the Catholic Church of Tanzania are dealing with differing views on the existence of the COVID-19 disease.
On one hand, the church is warning people to take care amid the second wave of the virus. On the other hand, Magufuli remains in denial with the latest being warning his citizens against foreign-manufactured vaccines.
A letter was written by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC), signed by Bishop Gervas Nyaisonga told the church is faithful that measures set in June 2020 to minimize the spread of the pandemic, had yielded results.
“Our country is not an island. We have every reason to take precautions and pray to God,”it said.
It added that “we are now facing a new wave of the spread. Apart from praying to God advice by health personnel still remains relevant”.
What triggered the Bishops’ stand?
Magufuli earlier warned his citizens of taking foreign made covid-19 vaccines. Alleging the vaccines were not made in good faith.
“If the white man was able to come up with vaccination, then vaccines for AIDS would have been brought, Tuberculosis would be a thing of the past, so would be Malaria and cancer,” he argued.
Since June 2020 Magufuli declared his country Covid-19 free and information on the pandemic has been kept secret in the east African country.
