Tadej Pogacar Wins Tour Of Slovenia Cycling Championship

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates won the Tour of Slovenia by a margin of 1:21 from his closest rival Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Victorious team

SLOVENIA. Ljubljana: Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates won the Tour of Slovenia 2021 on June 13 by a margin of 1:22 after a solo ride of 22 km. This was Pogacar’s seventh title this year. Tour of Slovenia 2021 was scheduled from June 9 – 13. With a win on Stage 2, and second place on Stage 4, Pogacar brought home the best climber jersey, as well as the jersey for best young rider.

The defending Tour de France champion became the 13th Slovenian to win the race. In 2019, Italian cyclist Diego Ulissi playing for UAE-Team Emirates was the winner of Tour of Slovenia.

Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Victorious took the second place and Diego Ulissi of UAE Team Emirates secured third place. The Stage 5 was claimed by Bahrain Victorious cyclist Phil Bauhaus.

Significant achievements of Tadej Pogacar

Tadej Pogacar is a Slovenian cyclist who currently rides for Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates. He became the youngest cyclist to win Tour of California, a UCI World Tour race in 2019 at age 20. Pogacar also won three stages of the 2019 Vuelta a España and secured third place. In the 2020 Tour de France he secured the general classification, young rider, and mountains classifications, becoming the only rider to win these three classifications simultaneously.

He is also the first Slovenian winner of Tour de France. Pogacar currently has a contract with UAE Team Emirates until the end of 2023 season.

27th Tour of Slovenia received extensive global attention through widespread broadcasting of the entire event. The organisers left no leaf unturned to make the race safe and memorable.

The Tour of Slovenia

Tour of Slovenia is the largest and most popular cycling event in Slovenia. The first Tour of Slovenia was organized in May 1993. The race now attracts world’s best cyclists and their teams now vouch for this tournament that completed its 25th edition this year. The race also offers breathtaking landscapes to enjoy while racing right from beautifully carpeted roads to Alpine region till the Mediterranean coasts.

The tour of Slovenia has over the period of time become one of the prestigious events through which the country promotes itself as a world class and eco-friendly and environment sensitive tourist destination.

The interesting stages in Tour of Slovenia

The Tour of Slovenia comprises of five stages. The stage one is 151,5 km in length starting from Ptuj and ending at Rogaška Slatina. This stage is a fairly level stage and technically demanding. The second stage starts from Žalec and ends at Celje covering a distance of 147 km. This stage offers moderate ascent to the cyclists that decides who moves fast and takes a considerable lead for the rest of the stages. Next stage starts from the town of Brežice and ends in Krško covering a distance of 165.8 km. The steep ascent towards the town of Sremič offers tremendous challenge to the cyclists. The fourth stage is from Ajdovščina to Nova Gorica covering a distance of 164.1 km. This stage decides the real winner of the race. The stage is mountainous and an extremely challenging climb awaits the cyclists at Sveta Gora. The final stage starts from the capital city of Ljubljana and finishes at Novo mesto covering a distance of 175.3 km. Here most of the cyclists go all out to make a place in the podium.

The Tour de France 2021 is scheduled to start on June 26 in Brittany, France. Pogacar being the defending champion will do his best to retain his yellow jersey in Paris this time too.
