INDIA: Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (Tmkoc) was a lifesaver for people of all ages during the days of clumsy daily soaps. It was a comprehensive package of entertainment, with a blend of humor and a social message. Despite today’s bad show writing, viewers feel linked to it because of its depiction of cultural and moral ideals.
The show, which was inspired by Padma Shri awardee Tarak Mehta’s popular comic column “Duniya Ne Undha Chashmah,” became an instant hit after it premiered on the Sony Sab channel on July 28, 2008. However, it differs significantly from the books and columns, as does every other adaptation.
So, what’s the difference between Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and its source material?
Jethalal’s persona:
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s most relatable character, so what if he takes on an entirely another persona? It would feel like a separate character. The most well-known Gada Electronics is absent from the book. Jethalal has a fabric shop and he’s usually dressed in a dhoti. While on the show, he is depicted as a submissive son who doesn’t say anything against his father’s wishes. Respects his father at all times. He doesn’t act the same way in the book, and he uses foul words for Tapu. Because the book is set in the 1970s, there is a significant disparity between the shop and Jethalal’s fashion sense.
Babitaji as Ranjan:
In the book, Babita’s real name is Ranjan. When Jethalal tries to flirt with her, she doesn’t respond in a friendly way. She insults him in any way she can. She is portrayed in the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as a wonderful friend to a Jethalal. In the book, all of the men in society are shown as wife beaters. As a result, Ranjan is depicted as a social worker. She has been known to rally the ladies against their husbands.

Popatlal is married:
If Popatlal marries, it won’t be much of a miracle. However, in the show, he plays the exact opposite of the TV version. He is married and the father of a child. He is also shown as a wife abuser and a drinker, much like all other males. He appears in the show as a Bachler looking for a good wife.
Everything about Gokuldham society:
Instead of the housing society, ‘Chowl’ is shown in the book version. So, except for Tarak Mehta, every man in the community is a drunkard and a wife abuser. In the show, though, all men are what every husband is to his wife. All of the couples have a fun-loving relationship. In the most endearing episode, “all the men fasting for their spouses on the auspicious occasion of ‘Karwa Chauth’ is depicted in the show.
Bapuji is a chain smoker, Bhide’s real name is Himmatlal, and he has three daughters; however, Tappu sena does not exist as represented in the show. They liked to tease the drunken Sodhi whenever they had the opportunity.
