Superman: Legacy finalises actors for Clark Kent and Lois Lane
Since the news broke out that Gunn would be directing and penning the script for the new Superman featurette, it piqued fans’ curiosity and added more fuel to their hype, when it was revealed that the filmmaker was holding the audition for Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
It appears after a long search, Gunn has found the two main leads for his DC feature. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will play the role of Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane.
Corenswet and Brosnahan were among the six contenders who were competing for the lead roles. Besides Corenswet, Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult (earlier auditioned for The Batman) were also in the line for the role of Superman. For the character of Lois Lane, Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were competing, but they lost the role to Brosnahan.
David Corenswet is known for his work in Ryan Murphy’s The Politician and Hollywood. He recently starred in T West’s directorial Pearl, made under the banner of A24. Talking about Rachel Brosnahan, she is a Golden Globe and Emmy winner actor. Her work in the critically acclaimed series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel helped her bag such prestigious awards.
Earlier, Christopher Reeve played the role of Superman in 1978, which made his name a legacy actor as the DC superhero. Following Reeve, Nicholas Cage was set to appear as the Last Son of Krypton in Tim Burton’s cancelled film in the 90s. However, Cage appeared in a cameo role in the latest DC release, The Flash.
In 2006 Brandon Routh donned the cape as the Kryptonian superhero but failed to bag numbers at the box office. In 2013, Henry Cavill was featured as the Man of Steel in Zack Snyder’s directorial 2013 film. Cavill later appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League (2017), Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), and Black Adam (2022), which made him a fan-favourite actor to play the character.
Prior to Brosnahan, Margot Kidder in 1978, Kate Bosworth in 2006, and Amy Adams from 2013 to 2021 played the role of Lois Lane.
James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will hit big screens on July 11, 2025, and will focus on the younger version of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, so Corenswet and Brosnanhan playing the role is a perfect choice.
Gunn will now march to find suitable actors for Lex Luthor and The Authority, a group of superheroes similar to Justice League, which uses extreme methods to fight crime.
