INDIA: India’s third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan 2022 is bestowed to Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. He bagged the prestigious award in the Trade and Industry category.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu, ambassador of India to the United States handed over the prestigious award to Pichai. While awarding the Google CEO, Sandhu added, “inspiring journey confirms Indian talent’s commitment to worldwide innovation.”
The Indian-based US Ambassador took to his Twitter and wrote, “Delighted to hand over Padma Bhushan to Google CEO Sundar Pichai in San Francisco. His inspirational journey from Madurai to Mountain View, strengthening India-America economic and tech ties, reaffirms Indian talent’s contribution to global innovation.”
“He has made praiseworthy efforts to make digital tools and skills available to a wide range of social groups in many regions of the world,” Sandhu further added.
The Madurai-born Sundar Pichai bagged one of the 17 awards earlier this year. Now, in the presence of his close family members in San Francisco he received the third-highest civilian award.
Meanwhile, Pichai accepted the award with great pride and honour. The 50-years old during his speech said, “I am really appreciative of the Indian government and people for this tremendous honour. The fact that the nation that shaped me is honouring me in this way is incredibly meaningful.”
“India is a part of me. I take it with me wherever I go (unlike this lovely award, which I shall keep safe). I was lucky to grow up in a home that valued education and information, with parents who worked hard to ensure I had opportunity to pursue my interests,” he further added.
Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India vision has been carried forward by Pichai at different levels. The ace of an engineer proved his mettle to the entire world, coming from a middle-class family Pichai became a brand.
The tech giant’s career graph is an inspiration to many. Pichai’s brainchild Google GPRS, Google Navigation, Google duo and many more changed many lives.
