INDIA: Following Bhediya, Maddock Films has officially confirmed the shooting schedule for the much-hyped Stree 2. The makers dropped a filming announcement video that reads, “O stree kal aana-2018.” The text is written on the wall in red and later it changes to “O Stree, raksha karna- 2024.”
The second part will star Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee in crucial roles. The first part was a blockbuster that reignited the horror-comedy genre in Bollywood.
Amar Kaushik added his directorial vision to the film under the banners of Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan Production. Now, the announcement clip gives a big update that the film will be released in August next year.
The leading actors posted the teaser and wrote, “Ek baar phir चंदेरी में फैला aantak! स्त्री २ filming begins. Aa rahi hai woh- August 2024!” The upcoming film will centre on “headless horror” this time.
According to reports, Varun Dhawan, who plays Bhediya, will make a surprise appearance in Stree 2 in addition to the two leads, and it will be the first horror-comedy movie in which characters from different films appear in one another’s stories. Rao and Khurrana did make a brief appearance in Bhediya, but they only appeared in the end credits and was not part of the script.
With the release of Rajkummar Rao’s 2018 film Dinesh Vijan started the horror-comedy universe in Bollywood, including Janhvi Kapoor’s Roohi in 2021 and Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya in 2022.
However, Roohi being part of the universe is a matter of discussion because it also features Rajkummar Rao in a different character compared to the 2018 film. The Janhvi Kapoor starrer performed poorly at the box office while facing negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Stree 2 marks the new edition to the universe. Besides Shraddha Kapoor’s film, Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya 2 has also been greenlit for a sequel.
