AUSTRALIA: Shortly after midday, Australia broke South Africa’s first innings rearguard fight and forced the follow-on. Australia was targeting a thrilling victory and a series clean sweep on the third Test’s last day at Sydney Cricket Ground. However, South Africa managed to draw the third test.

Very little play was possible over the first few days of the match due to the severe rain, which led to a tie. However, Australia won the series 2-0.

Pat Cummins bowled amazingly earlier on Day 4 to give Australia a slim hope of winning the third Test against South Africa. However, it was marred by rain, going into the final day.

After the third day at the Sydney Cricket Ground was totally wiped out by rain, Cummins took three for 29 in a savage 14 overs to breathe new life into the contest.

South Africa was playing for its life at the end of day four, needing 149 runs to defeat Australia’s declared first-inning score of 475/4.

Australians steal the show

Usman Khawaja was adjudged the ‘Man of the match’. He believes his profession has had its ups and downs. “It has been challenging at times but also gratifying to others,” he said.

He stated that patience was essential for this pitch. As he was unable to get his double-ton, he believes that Australia has consistently demonstrated that the team comes first. He claims that South Africa played well and is a difficult team to defeat.

The award for player of the series was bagged by David Warner. The opener praises the entire team’s outstanding performance but gives the bowler credit for showing intent in this game and going for the victory.

He praised Anrich Nortje’s performance and the Proteas’ style of play. “Despite their best efforts, South Africa’s underdogs managed to hang on,” he added.

Talking about the upcoming tour to India, Warner claimed that it will be a huge challenge, but they are looking forward to it.
