INDIA: Shaktimaan is undoubtedly one of the most popular Indian superheroes; therefore, Sony Pictures India’s announcement that our desi superhero will be adapted for the big screen is a dream come true moment for the Indian superhero community. The studio also announced that a trilogy would be released in theatres. Sony Pictures International has also acquired the character’s film adaptation rights.
Shaktimaan was an Indian action superhero TV show that ran on DD national from 1997 to 2005 and was developed by Mukesh Khanna and Dinker Jani. That captivated the craze of the younger generation at the time; mainly, it was a widely celebrated phenomenon among the 90’s kids.
Who will play the role of Shaktimaan?
Taran Adarsh, an Indian critic, announced on Twitter that “one of India’s major superstars will play the role, and a top name will direct the film.” However, it has yet to be determined who will play the role. Taran Adarsh explicitly stated that a top name would direct, implying that the studio has confirmed the director.
On their Twitter account, Sony Pictures films India said that Sony Pictures International Productions is planning to bring Shaktimaan’ to the big screen and recapture the mystique of the renowned superhero, to be starred by one of India’s superstars.
Mukesh Khanna recently mentioned that he would post the trailer when his YouTube channel Bheeshm International reached one million subscribers. Following his channel’s subscriber count, a teaser was launched on Bheeshm International and Sony Pictures India’s YouTube channels. The full teaser was entitled “Peoples Hero,” emphasizing the Indian superhero’s widespread popularity.
Quality of trailer looks quite amateur
Since this is merely an announcement clip, it is not assured that the final quality will be the same. It could also be seen as a fan response. How enthusiastic are the fans for the project, and based on the views and excitement for Shaktimaan on social media, it is safe to assume that this is not the final version.
Bheeshm International and Brewing Thoughts Pvt. Ltd. are also associated with the film
The Movie will stick to its originality by maintaining the modern vibes. Mukesh Khanna’s Bheeshm International is also involved in the project confirming that Shaktimaan will stay faithful to its source material. The film is also attributed to Brewing Thoughts Pvt. Ltd.
Will it be live action or animation?
It will be a live-action adaptation. Despite the trailer’s reliance on 3D animation, the film will presumably be a live rendition. Considering Sony Pictures India’s lack of experience with animation, it’s safe to assume that the film will not be animated. And the animation sector in India is not well-known, particularly in the film industry. This specifies that the film will be a live-action adaptation.
Shaktimaan’s announcement provides a fan moment and sends a signal to other Indian superheroes, including Raj Comics, that it has the potential to compete with the Marvel and DC cinematic universes. This will increase the popularity of Indian comics and their creators, who are currently underappreciated.
