INDIA: In a bizarre incident, a snake was found in a mid-day meal served at a government school in Bihar’s Araria. As per reports, the students were served Khichdi, which was prepared by an NGO.
However, it turned out to be the most horrible experience for many children who suffered illness immediately after having lunch.
The incident took place at a government-run Amouna middle school Ward No. 21, under Jogbani Nagar Parishad Forbesganj of Araria district. Reports suggest that a student recovered a dead snake from his meal and informed the school authorities.
In the midst of all the chaos, the students who were already done with their meals started vomiting and were immediately rushed to the hospital. In the meantime, the Senior officers, including the SDM, the SDO and the DSP, reached the spot and started probing the matter.
As per the latest update, more than 150 kids had consumed food while several youngsters were still receiving it. The concerned NGO brought the prepared meals to the school at around 9 am.
The dead snake was transferred to the food from the serving utensils. Thus, Forbesganj SDO Surendra Kumar Albela and DSP Khushru Siraj rushed to the school after getting the information.
As per the school’s headmistress, Poonam Kumari, the NGO was responsible for the distribution of the mid-day meals in the school.
Araria district education officer (DEO) Rajkumar, in his official statement, said, “All the schoolchildren who consumed mid-day meals have been admitted at Forbesganj sub-divisional hospital, and fortunately, all are safe. A probe has been ordered, and those found guilty would not be spared.”
The DEO stated that an NGO was allocated the responsibility of providing mid-day meals in the school. DEO also added that they are thoroughly investigating the case and that the NGO’s licence will be revoked if their involvement is revealed.
