SPAIN: Travelling, working, residency, studying, setting up a firm and receiving health benefit in other European Union Member States is a daily reality for many Europeans. EU citizens that wish to move or operate in another EU country have difficulties getting information on the rules that govern different fields and on the steps necessary to implement the required procedures.
To address these problems and merge a genuine single market, the European Parliament and the Council adopted a Regulation establishing the Single Digital Gateway.
Single Digital Gateway
The portal will offer practical advice on questions related to residency, education, family matters, health help and consumer rights. In phase two, which will culminate in three years’ time, in 2023, administrative formalities will be completed online in different European Union Member States.
The new portal will contribute to reducing administrative burdens. As a general rule, the “once-only” principle will be applied so that citizens and companies do not have to provide the same information to public authorities more than once.

Users that access the Single Digital Gateway will be provided with a simple evaluation tool that will allow them to make anonymous observations on the quality and availability of the services provided through the Single Digital Gateway and the information available. User satisfaction with the services provided can be observed.
All European public authorities have been collaborating and working closely on this project to comply with the launch date of the Single Digital Gateway and move forward with the effective development of the European internal market.
In phase one, focused on the information pillar of the Single Digital Gateway, the work in Spain of publishing the content included in the 160 pages of the General Access Point of the General State Administration web portal (https://administracion.gob.es) has been a coordinated effort.
