COLOMBIA: Gerard Piqué’s alleged infidelity has led to Shakira’s decision to stop keeping quiet about their breakup. The couple dated for 12 years before splitting up in June.
Shakira, 45, spoke candidly about the incident for the first time. The famous pop singer spoke up about her struggles following her traumatic breakup with the Spanish World Cup winner in an interview with ELLE magazine.
“Oh, this is really hard to talk about personally, especially as this is the first time, I’ve ever addressed this situation in an interview,” she stated. “I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, I’m in the public eye, and our separation is not like a regular separation. So, it’s been tough not only for me but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.”
Although they were never wed, Shakira and Piqué’s separation in June surprised many people. Milan, age nine, and Sasha, age seven, were born into the couple’s 12-year relationship.
She continued by describing how she sacrificed her own career to let Pique keep playing: “I put my career in second gear and came to Spain to support him, so he could play football and win titles. And it was a sacrifice of love. Thanks to that, my kids were able to have a present mom, and I have this amazing bond with them that is unbreakable and sustains us. You know that is it. That’s all I can say.”
Both parties have remained silent over the allegations that Piqué cheated on Shakira near the end of their relationship. Still, the soccer player has subsequently been connected to 23-year-old student Clara Chia Marti. Spanish media source Socialite published pictures of the two kissing at the Summerfest Cerdanya festival in Catalonia last month.
Shakira reveals her custody battle
Despite her personal sentiments for Gerard Pique, Shakira remarked that the two would need to work together to make sure that their children are raised well and have a decent life. She said, “Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children. We have a job to do for these two incredible boys. And I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is a fair solution for everyone involved.”
Shakira stated that her commitment to setting a positive example for her children in all circumstances drives her to overcome her agony.
Shakira said, “Seeing your dream crushed or torn apart is definitely one of the most difficult things you will ever go through for those ladies, like myself, who believe in values like family and who had the enormous ideal of having a family forever. But I believe that women are strong. We all possess this intrinsic capacity for resilience, you know. And those who depend on us are meant for us to care for and nurture.”
