UNITED STATES: Secret Invasion begins! Disney Marvel has raked up a pile of new projects for fans in 2023, following an underwhelming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and a splendid send-off to Guardians in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Now, the House of Mouse returns with another miniseries, Secret Invasion, in its pocket.
Nick Fury on a mission in Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson took on the mantle of Nick Fury with his first appearance in Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man (2008). With Fury’s iconic dialogue, “There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people so that, when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could,” he cemented the foundation of Avengers, the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Now, Fury returns to Secret Invasion after a surprising post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). This put him on a mission to stop the renegade Skrulls, who are aiming to take over the Earth. On his journey, he is accompanied by Maria Hill, Everett Ross, and Talos.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Secret Invasion from the trailers and teasers, appear to follow a different route than the original story. Minus the mega-Avengers-level story brimming with the greatest Marvel heroes, the MCU version takes an alternative take to attract the live-action audience.
Nevertheless, being a Marvel brand, Secret Invasion packs a huge excitement among fans as it gears up for its release on June 21. The MCU series will release worldwide at 3 am ET. In India, the series will premier at 12: 30 pm IST. The miniseries consists of 6 episodes, with each releasing every Wednesday on Disney+.
Talking about the early reviews, Secret Invasion has 69 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. It stands lowest compared to the earlier MCU series She-Hulk (80 percent critics) and Ms. Marvel (98 percent critics). Though, the audience score of She-Hulk stands at 32 percent, making Attorney in Green a topic of war between critics and fans.
Thoughts on the current MCU scenario
The MCU series bagging a low rating is nothing new. Since the beginning of Phase 4, Marvel has been shoving a tonne of series and movies, which has started superhero fatigue. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Shang Chi (2021), and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 can be considered exceptional case among all the Marvel releases after Phase 3.
The House of Mouse is releasing a series on almost every character, which has initiated a saga of mediocrity.
