UNITED STATES. San Francisco: In what police believe to have been a “targeted and isolated incident,” at least nine individuals were shot on Friday in San Francisco’s Mission District.
San Francisco Police Department Officer Eve Laokwansathitaya said that all victims are anticipated to survive the gunshot, which took place during “some sort of block party.”
She did not give a reason for the shooting and stated that “we believe that it was a targeted and isolated incident,” adding that no arrests have been made in connection with the event.
Laokwansathitaya said that officers reached the scene in the area, which is frequently referred to as “The Mission,” shortly after 9 p.m. local time (12 a.m. ET).
At least five of the victims were allegedly being treated in hospitals, said Santiago Lerma, a legislative aide to a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
According to Lerma, who was on the site, four victims had minor injuries treated, while one of the five injured was undergoing surgery as of Friday night.
He stated that an hour before the shooting, he and his 3-month-old child were in the vicinity of the crime scene. He expressed his concern for the state of affairs. It’s absolutely scary.
Officers found numerous victims with gunshot wounds when they got on the site. Officers called for medical help to treat the injured and take them to nearby hospitals, according to police.
The SFPD tweeted shortly after the incident that there was “no known threat to the public at this time” in the diverse and historic neighbourhood noted for its nightlife, restaurants, and live music scene.
The Mission District, also known as The Mission, is a sizable and diversified neighbourhood located in the east-central region of San Francisco and is well-known for its historic architecture.
