INDIA: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar lashed at the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his sharp attacks upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his foreign visits. The Indian diplomat slammed Gandhi for repeatedly bringing up Indian issues on foreign land.
The external minister was accompanied by ministers of state V Muraleedharan, Meenakshi Lekhi and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.
Gandhi claimed that India’s democratic processes were under threat when speaking to the Indian diaspora in the US earlier this week. Congress leader stated that attacks on Indian institutions, the courts, and the media are widespread. He further added, “It is our and your responsibility to defend the idea of India.”
Jaishankar disapproved of Rahul’s allegations of democratic institutions being weakened in the country. He further showed confidence that the saffron party will lead the upcoming LokSabha elections of 2024.
Jaishankar, while addressing a special media briefing on foreign policy, said, “The world is watching and what are they seeing? Elections are held, and sometimes one party wins and sometimes another. Such a shift would not occur in the absence of democracy in the country. Every election should produce the same outcome. However, we know what the outcome of the 2024 election will be.”
Jaishankar said that all of the narratives against the government are created in India. He went on to say that if this narrative does not work in India or receives little attention in the country, it would be carried abroad. According to EAM, Rahul Gandhi believes that outside assistance will be effective in India.
“I have no objection to whatever he does inside the country, but I don’t think taking national politics out of the country is in the national interest. I don’t feel it will increase his credibility,” he added.
