BRAZIL/UNITED STATES: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received condemnation from the United States on Monday in light of his new ideas highlighting the West’s ignition of a possible war by giving arms to Ukraine amid his receiving praises from Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister on his desire to establish peace talks.
On Monday, Lavrov told the journalists, “Moscow appreciates our Brazilian friends’ clear understanding of the situation’s origins. We appreciate their willingness to help us discover solutions to this problem.”
Lavrov met Lula on his visit to Brasilia, where he extended his heartfelt thanks to Brazil for endeavouring to end the conflict. However, a spokesperson from the White House blamed Lula for “parroting Russian and Chinese propaganda without looking at the facts.”
Lula had positioned himself as a mediator for negotiations to end the situation in Ukraine, which started when Russia invaded the nearby nation in February 2022. The argument behind such an idea was Brazil’s non-interference and transparent diplomacy history.
However, Lula has infuriated many people in the West with remarks he made over the weekend, in which he urged Western nations to cease arming the conflict. Shortly after his trip to China, he made the remarks when he spoke with Xi Jinping about the subject.
In his address to the journalists on Saturday, Lula mentioned, “The US should cease pushing war and start preaching about peace. However, we must also consult with the United States and the European Union. We must persuade people that peace is the only path forward.”
On Monday, The White House national security spokesperson, John Kirby, highlighted that Lula’s comments were “suggesting the United States and Europe are somehow not interested in peace, or that we share responsibility for the war.”
Ukraine has the right to look for Western weapons to shove the invaders out, in accordance with Kyiv, Washington, and other friends, and a ceasefire now would leave Russia in possession of land it forcibly stole.
The concept Lula put up that the conflict was caused by both Russia and Ukraine was also rejected by the European Union. According to EU spokesperson on foreign affairs Peter Stano, all assistance is intended for Ukraine’s “legitimate defence.”
