UKRAINE: The Russian invasion of Ukraine began last week, and President Vladimir Putin issued a warning to Western countries, urging them not to interfere in the fight. Russia presently has the world’s second-largest nuclear arsenal, trailing only the United States.
According to reports, the European Union’s foreign policy leader, Josep Borell, has stated that the EU countries will send fighter jets to Ukraine at Kyiv’s request to assist it in countering the Russian air and ground attack during the present invasion.
Borell stated during the press conference, “We’re going to supply even fighting airplanes. We’re not just talking about ammunition here. We are supplying more vital weapons to be used in a fight.”
This comes after Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, warned the European Union that the country’s armed forces required fighter jets.
Borell stated that Kuleba has asked the EU for “the kind of fighter jets that the Ukrainian army is capable of operating… several member states have these kinds of planes.”
This comes just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country’s nuclear weapons are on “high alert” as Western countries conduct “unfriendly” actions against it during its invasion of Ukraine. This statement was made just a few days after the invasion began on Thursday.
According to senior US defense sources, Putin’s speech was “unnecessary and escalators,” and it may lead to further escalation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
