RUSSIA: In the ongoing competition between ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence chatbots, Russian lender Sberbank (SBER.MM) said on Monday that it has introduced GigaChat as a competitor. GigaChat was initially in an invite-only testing mode.
The launch of ChatGPT, a chatbot from the Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI, last year sparked a rush in the tech industry to make AI more accessible to people. The goal is to change the way people work and gain clients as a result.
According to Sberbank, what distinguishes GigaChat from other international neural networks is its capacity to converse more intelligently in Russian.
The largest bank in Russia has made significant technology investments in recent years in an effort to lessen the nation’s dependency on imports. This process has become extremely crucial as a result of Western countries’ reductions in exports to Russia and the imposition of punitive sanctions as a result of Moscow’s activities in Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. presented Tongyi Qianwen, an AI large language model similar to GPT, which will be incorporated into all of the company’s business applications in the near future. It will be used to summarise meeting notes, compose emails, and create business proposals. It will also be included in Tmall Genie, Alibaba’s voice assistant.
Similarly, the Microsoft-backed ChatGPT competitor Ernie Bot was launched by Chinese search giant Baidu on Thursday in a pre-recorded video presentation that appeared to disappoint investors. Baidu is a leading provider of online services in China.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT showed the AI chatbot’s ability to provide answers to queries and produce essays. Baidu, a Chinese company, is developing similar chatbots, including Ernie Bot.
Baidu’s internal testing of Ernie Bot was almost finished in February, and the organisation has moved its focus to artificial intelligence, including autonomous driving technology and other AI applications.
