RUSSIA/UKRAINE: Russia and Ukraine are working to lower morale and reduce military strength in preparation for a counteroffensive against Russia’s 15-month invasion. This has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, the destruction of Ukrainian cities, and an increase in attacks against Russian territory.

Russian troops stopped three invasion attempts near Shebekino, killing 30 Ukrainian fighters and destroying four armoured vehicles. The RVC, a far-right paramilitary organisation, claimed to be engaged in combat inside Russia.

Moscow accuses Kyiv of orchestrating the raids, despite Kiev’s denial of direct involvement. Vyacheslav Gladkov claimed that Ukrainian forces fired Grad 122mm rockets in Shebekino, causing a dormitory to catch fire and a government structure to sustain damage, resulting in the evacuation of hundreds of people and nine civilians.

Russia shot down 10 missiles in Kyiv, Ukraine, but a piece of rubble landed close to an air raid shelter where a nine-year-old girl, her mother, and another lady were attempting to enter. They made a loud enough knocking noise, but nobody opened the door for them.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy pushed for Ukraine’s membership in NATO, but members disagreed on how quickly it should happen.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis noted that it is high time to find a concrete answer. Kyiv has not yet selected a date for the proposed peace summit, and Ukraine believes the war will only be ended by a complete Russian retreat.

Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary-general of NATO, stated that the alliance’s members need to ensure Ukraine’s security in the future. He said that a framework must be in place to ensure that Russian actions against Ukraine do not pause. The cycle of violence against Ukraine must be broken, he said.
